The SpaceX Dragon spacecraft has arrived at the International Space Station (ISS), safely concluding a 34-hour-long journey. Launched on February 13 from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida, atop SpaceX‘s Falcon 9 rocket, the capsule carrying four astronauts on NASA’s Crew-12 mission docked to the station’s Harmony module at 1:45 am IST on February 15 [3:15 EST on Feb. 14].

Confirming the flawless docking, NASA astronaut and Crew-12 commander Jessica Meir said – “With that gentle contact, we have bridged the legacy of humankind’s continuous presence in space. It has been more than 25 years at this very site. The International Space Station is more than a structure, it is a promise kept. Decades in the making, built by nations, sustained by trust and partnerships, and powered by science, innovation and curiosity.”
After the hatch opening two hours post docking, the Crew-12 astronauts were welcomed aboard by three residents who have kept the station operations going since mid-January.

“Thank you to all the teams all around the world. We are so excited to be here and let’s get rolling with Expedition 74,” Meir said in her address at the welcoming ceremony. Meir is accompanied by mission pilot Jack Hathaway (NASA), mission specialist and European Space Agency astronaut Sophie Adenot and Russian cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev – who’s also serving as mission specialist.

Adenot and Hathaway are on their first space mission whereas Meir and Fedyaev are on their second. Together with NASA’s Chris Williams and Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Sergei Mikaev, Crew-12 will make up the Expedition 74 team for the next eight months.
NASA administrator Jared Isaacman celebrated the docking and hailed the team effort put in by teams across NASA and SpaceX. “Human spaceflight is a major team effort and requires immense competence, precision and discipline. Credit to the NASA flight controllers guiding Dragon to station and overseeing ISS operations, the mission and payload teams delivering world-class science, our international partners, and SpaceX for safely carrying our astronauts to and from orbit,” he posted on X.
